Ezy Penno Installation Instructions

What Is Ezy Penno?

Ezy Penno is a patented, fire-rated pipe wrap solution designed to help prevent the spread of fire through service penetrations in walls and floors. It is supplied pre-cut, pre-formed, pre-taped and clearly labelled to suit the outside diameter of the pipe being protected.

It is engineered for use with a range of tested Fire Rated Solutions systems, including:

• Stainless steel pipes
• Copper pipes
• Thick-wall steel pipes
• Thin-wall steel pipes

Suitable Barrier Types

Ezy Penno is suitable for installation in many common wall and floor constructions, including:

• Plasterboard
• Concrete
• Blockwork, including unfilled and core-filled
• Brick
• Aerated concrete
• Concrete-filled PVC wall systems
• Masonry
• Ezy Batt systems (Fire Rated Solutions)

Before You Start

Before installation, confirm:

• The outside diameter (O/D) of the pipe
• The correct Ezy Penno size
• The barrier type and tested system requirements
• The annular gap is within the permitted range
• All required accessories and sealants are available before installation

For best results, always ensure the installation matches the relevant tested system and approved documentation. This is an inference based on the product’s stated use across tested systems and different substrate types.

Fire Rating Performance

The blanket is approved for use in multiple barriers with FRL ratings, including:

• 60 min
• 90 min
• 120 min

Wall Installation

For 60, 90 and 120 minute barrier ratings

1. Measure the pipe outside diameter (O/D). Select the correct size Ezy Penno or Ezy Wrap to suit the pipe.
2. Seal the annular gap. Apply Ezy Seal mastic to fill the annular gap from 5 mm up to 30 mm maximum to the full depth of the plasterboard barrier, or up to 26 mm maximum in hard surfaces.
3. Wrap the product around the pipe. Install the Ezy Penno around the pipe and secure it with tape.
4. Apply cable ties. Secure cable ties in the labelled positions, starting 50 mm from the barrier and then at 100 mm intervals.
5. Finish with red mastic. Apply Ezy Seal Red Mastic with a 20 mm fillet using the red applicator to complete the installation.

Wall-to-Floor Transition Installation

Topside install only

1. Use two Ezy Penno units or Ezy Wrap for the wall-to-floor transition.

2. Fill the annular gap in the floor with Ezy Seal or non-shrink grout, with a gap range from 5 mm to 30 mm, consistent with wall applications. 

3. Insert a 50 mm wide backing rod down from the top of the penetration, leaving a 50 mm to 100 mm layer for sealing. 

4. Fill this layer with Ezy Seal or non-shrink grout to a minimum depth of 50 mm, finishing flush with the floor.

5. Measure the outside diameter (O/D) of the pipe and select the correct Ezy Penno or Ezy Wrap size. 

6. Place the first full layer of wrap around the base of the pipe at floor penetration level.

7. Position the first half layer at the bottom of the wrap so there are two layers at floor level. 

8. Position the second half layer at the top of the first vertical layer to extend the overall length and create the tiered “wedding cake” effect. 

9. Apply Ezy Seal Red Mastic around the base with a 20 mm fillet using the red applicator. 

10. Install cable ties in the labelled positions, beginning 50 mm from the barrier and then every 100 mm. 

Installation Notes

• Always measure the outside diameter, not the internal diameter.
• Ensure cable ties are installed in the labelled positions.
• Maintain the specified annular gap limits and sealing depths.
• Use the correct Ezy Seal mastic and applicator where specified.
• Wall-to-floor transitions are topside install only.
